Security Best Practices

Reusing passwords means a single breach can compromise all your accounts. Attackers routinely try leaked credentials on other services — a technique called "credential stuffing." Use a unique, strong password for every account and a password manager to keep track of them all.
2FA adds a second verification step beyond your password — typically a code from an authenticator app or hardware key. Even if your password is stolen, an attacker can't access your account without the second factor. Hardware security keys (FIDO2/WebAuthn) offer the strongest protection.
ANSI/BHMA grades rate lock durability and security. Grade 3 is basic residential. Grade 2 is light commercial and higher-end residential. Grade 1 is the highest rating — required for commercial use and built to withstand over 800,000 cycles. Always choose Grade 1 for entry doors and high-security areas.
Smart locks offer keyless entry, remote access, and audit trails — but introduce wireless attack surfaces. Look for locks with AES-128+ encryption, regular firmware updates, and a physical key backup. Avoid models that rely solely on WiFi without a Bluetooth fallback. Always change default PINs immediately.
Layered security means no single point of failure. Combine physical barriers (deadbolts, reinforced frames) with electronic controls (smart locks, cameras, alarms) and digital hygiene (strong passwords, 2FA, encrypted communications). Each layer slows an attacker and increases the chance of detection.
